How to help stray cats

If you find a stray cat, the first thing to do is try to determine if it is a stray or someone's escaped or outdoor cat. If the cat seems friendly and used to humans, it may be someone else's cat that has escaped. In this case, you should try to find the owner and return the cat. If you cannot find the owner, you should take the cat to a shelter. The shelter will scan the cat for a microchip to determine if it has been registered with an owner. If the cat is not registered, the shelter will put it up for adoption. Cats can take a long time to warm up to you, so be patient. If the cat does not warm up to you, or you are unable to care for it, please take it to a shelter so that it can find a new home.
